Furry Friend Friday With Bosco!

It’s our favorite day of the week again, Furry Friend Friday!  Our special guest this week is extra cute if you ask us, he’s a 7 month-old schnauzer mix named Bosco!  This cute little puppy is currently up for adoption at the Scituate Animal Shelter and has been there since July, so he’s overdue to find his forever family! So Bosco, how does a cute little pup like you wind up in a shelter? Well I was actually found as a stray on the south shore, I’m not exactly sure where, but Animal Control picked me up.  They didn’t have a facility to keep me in, so I ended up at the Scituate Animal Shelter!  I really lucked out, everyone here is so nice!  I’m definitely ready to find my forever family though, I’ve been here since July and even though everyone here is so nice, I’d love to... Furry Friend Friday With Elvira!

We’re back with your Friday pick-me-up!  Our special guest for today’s Furry Friend Friday interview is named Elvira!  This pretty lady is a 3 year-old cat who’s up for adoption at the Lowell Humane Society, she’s been there since June so she’s definitely overdue to find a family of her own! So Elvira, how does a pretty girl like you wind up in a shelter? Well, I actually used to have a family, but they moved and unfortunately couldn’t bring me with them, so I ended up here.  I came in with my brother, Merlin.  We’ve been together since we were kittens, so we’re very close and would love to go to a home together, although it’s not a requirement. What’s your favorite way to spend the day? I’m still young so I’m very playful!  When I get really excited I do “happy paws” and roll on my back... [...]

Is Competition In The Insurance Industry Benefiting Massachusetts Drivers?

In 2008, the auto insurance market in Massachusetts was deregulated resulting in major changes for both consumers and insurance carriers alike. As more carriers began to write policies in the state, prices initially dropped.  However, prices have since rebounded and now closely resemble what consumers were paying before the industry was deregulated, according to data from the state Division of Insurance.  The question then arises; Is competition in the industry actually benefiting Massachusetts residents? Recently, an article titled “Auto Insurance Rates Bounce Back Up In Mass.” was published in the Boston Globe.  The article was written by Deirdre Fernandes and she tries to determine whether or not consumers are benefiting from competition in the auto insurance industry by studying year-to-year comparisons of auto insurance premiums.  Before deregulation, insurance carriers typically had the same prices and offerings for their consumers, prompting larger carriers to avoid writing policies in Massachusetts due... Get Your Home Ready For Fall!

The time for apple picking, bonfires, football, pumpkins, and beautiful foliage is here.  That’s right, fall has arrived!  As the seasons change, so do the needs of our homes, which is why it’s so important to make sure yours is ready for fall.  Knowing where to start can be confusing, which is why we’ve come up with these helpful tips! Inspect the outside of the home. You’ll want to make sure there’s not anything that obviously needs to be fixed, especially on the roof.  Look for any missing or damaged shingles, and clean off any debris if it’s possible to do so safely. Clean out the rain gutters.  These can get filled with leaves, nests, and twigs that can weigh it down and cause more damage if not cleaned regularly. Trim bushes and trees.  You should also check trees for branches that are dead.  They can break at any moment, causing... [...]

It’s that time of the week again, Furry Friend Friday!  Today’s interview was especially fun, that’s because we got to spend time with Recess!  No, we’re not talking about running around outside on the playground (although that would be fun), we’re talking about our furry friend!  Recess is his name, and cuteness is his game.  This handsome guy is a 1 year-old greyhound up for adoption at Greyhound Friends, Inc in Hopkinton. So Recess, how did you find yourself in the good old Bay State? Well I made my way all the way up from West Virginia if you can believe it.  During my time down there I was a racing dog!  It’s nice to be retired though, now I’m just ready and waiting to find my perfect forever family. What’s your favorite way to spend the day? I love being around people!  If I’m being totally honest, I... [...]

So Barcelona, I hear you’ve traveled a long way to be here, where are you originally from? You’re right!  I’m actually from Puerto Rico, my name might make you think I’d be from Spain, but nope!  I just arrived here in the U.S. and I’ve only been in the shelter for a few days.  Everyone here is so nice but I’d really like to find a home of my own with a yard where I can run and play!
