December 2014 Events in Massachusetts

Though the weather is growing colder, the holiday season in Massachusetts is beautiful. We hope you’ll get out and enjoy all that the Bay State has to offer despite the cold, so we’ve rounded up some of our favorite events happening this month in Mass.

Bright Nights at Forest Park – December 1 – January 4 – Springfield, MA

Enjoy beautiful holiday lighting with this three-mile route of impressive decorations! With more than 600,000 and a musical simulcast from 98.5FM, you and your family will be dazzled. With passes per vehicle ranging from $16-$21, Bright Nights is a drive the whole family will love.

The Polar Express at Edaville Railroad – December 3-30 – Carver, MA

Inspired by the holiday classic and hit movie, this is a fun holiday event the kids are sure to love. Hop aboard the The Polar Express at Edaville Railroad and take off to the North Pole to the soundtrack of the film. There will be a reading of the book, a stop to visit Santa, and hot chocolate and cookies served on board.

Holiday Skating Party – December 7 – Amherst, MA

Head to the Mullins Center Community Ice Rink to get into the holiday spirit with their Holiday Skating Party! Rock out to tunes provided by Hits 94.3, trying your hand at snowflake crafting and cookie decorating, and enjoy ice skating (rentals are included in the price of admission) at this event the whole family will love.

Newburyport Holiday House Tour – December 13 – Newburyport, MA

Beginning at the historic Custom House Maritime Museum, the 21st Anniversary Holiday House Tour will take you through the finest private residences and unique spaces Newburyport has to offer. Explore the history and culture of the town as you delight in the holiday decorations at each stop.

White Christmas at the Wang Theater – December 16 – 28 – Boston, MA

Celebrate the season with this holiday classic and the music of Irving Berlin! Catch Irving Berlin’s White Christmas The Musical at the Wang Theater in downtown Boston. Get in the spirit with music, dancing and holiday cheer – and stay tuned to our Facebook page for an opportunity to win your tickets!

Summer’s coming to an end, kids are going back to school, and the weather is cooling down, but there’s still plenty of time to get outside and enjoy these fun events taking place this month in Massachusetts!

Hilltown Brewfest – Can you think of a better way to close out summer than by enjoying an ice cold brew on a beautiful day? No? Then you won’t want to miss the Hilltown Brewfest on Saturday, September 6th in New Salem!  Not only is it sure to be a great time, it’s for a great cause as all proceeds will benefit local fire departments.  Relax under the big tents while you sip on different brews of beer, wine, and cider from local brewers and listen to live music from three different bands!  There will also be food available for purchase, free popcorn and the commemorative tasting glass given to guests is yours to keep!  The Brewfest will be from 12 noon until 5 PM and is a 21+ and pet-free event.

The Big E – The largest fair in the northeast is back!  The Big E will be returning to West Springfield from September 12th – 28th, and is guaranteed to be fun for all ages.  Get your fried Oreo and Craz-E burger fix while enjoying live music, circus performers, a daily parade, museums, animals, competitive exhibits, crafts, rides, shopping, and much more!  There will be top performers in attendance including Emblem3, Darius Rucker, ZZ Top, Eddie Money, Little Big Town, and many more!  Concert tickets are not included with admission to the fair so those tickets will need to be purchased separately, but if you purchase concert tickets in advance, it will include your admission to the fair.  This New England tradition only happens once a year and you won’t want to miss it!

iFest Boston – The newest festival to come to Boston is celebrating everything Irish!  From food, sports, culture, and entertainment, this lively event is sure to be fun for all ages!  You can even join a workshop to trace your Irish roots!  There will be tons of live music, delicious food, literary exhibits, enchanting performances, an Irish sports bar, and or course plenty of drinks to go around!  This family-friendly  festival will be from September 26th – 28th at the Seaport World Trade Center on South Boston’s Waterfront.  Whether you’re Irish or not, you’re sure to enjoy the exciting atmosphere and merriment brought on by this new festival!

King Richard’s Faire – How often do you get the chance to step back in time?  That’s exactly what you can do at King Richard’s Faire!  Chow down on a turkey leg while you watch knights joust on horseback, jugglers, acrobats, fire eaters, puppeteers, and many other talented performers!  There will also be games, rides, artisans from around the world, exotic animals, and much more to captivate guests of the faire.  Don’t forget to grab a beer from your local bar wench while you’re there!  The faire is located on an 80 acre wooded site in Carver and will be going on from August 30th – October 19th so there’s plenty of time to visit.

So many events, so little time!  Make sure you get your tickets to these exciting happenings and enjoy what’s left of the warm weather before the chill of fall returns!

December Events In Massachusetts

Are you as excited for the holiday season as we are? Everyone seems to be excited and there are tons of events going on this month to celebrate.  Whether you’re looking for something to do with family, friends, or even co-workers, there’s an event going on for everyone this December!  Be sure to check some of these out and enjoy the season with those you love!

Christmas Festival of Lights in Carver – If you’re looking for the perfect family event, look no further.  The Christmas Festival of Lights in Carver is a holiday tradition and kicked off their season on November 22nd at Edaville USA and will be there until January 1st.  Stop by and go for a ride on the Polar Express and enjoy the thousands of sparkling lights all around the park.  Kids can get their picture with Santa, go on the many rides in the park, or enjoy a treat from the various food vendors located around the park.  Hours for this event are from 4 – 9 PM on weekdays and from 2 – 9 PM on weekends, there’s still plenty of time to stop by with the whole family so don’t miss out!

Boston Common Tree Lighting – This is a can’t miss event for anyone that loves the holiday season!  Don’t miss the annual Boston Common Tree Lighting on Thursday, December 5th from 6 – 8 PM, even if you can’t be there in person, you can catch it airing live on WCVB TV.  There will be a figure skating show on Frog Pond presented by The Skating Club of Boston at 5 PM so if you’re there early be sure to check it out!  Entertainment includes Joey McIntyre of New Kids on the Block, “American Idol” Season 11 finalist, Erica Van Pelt, Blue Man Group, the Boston Ballet, and much more.  This is the 42nd year the tree has been donated by Nova Scotia and Mayor Thomas Menino and the Honourable Andrew Younger, Minister with the Government of Nova Scotia will be on hand with Santa Claus and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to flip the switch and turn the tree on right at 8 PM!  After the tree is lit there will be a pyrotechnics display to light up the Boston skyline so make sure you mark you calendars for this fun event!

40th Annual Nantucket Christmas Stroll Weekend – The holiday season in Nantucket is like taking a step back in time, stroll down their cobblestone streets, listen to Christmas Carols being played by church bells in the distance, and enjoy the smell of the salt air.  Their annual Christmas Stroll weekend is from December 6th – 8th and you can enjoy their popular Christmas House Tour on Friday evening, take in the holiday atmosphere, and watch Santa Claus arrive on the island via Coastguard Vessel on Saturday afternoon before he parades up Main St to greet the many children waiting to see him.  There will be tons of entertainment, carolers in period costume, and even their first ever costume contest to go along with their theme of a “Victorian Christmas”.  If you plan on attending, stop by the Nantucket Chamber of Commerce on Main St for a full program listing the times and locations of all activities throughout the weekend!

Ugly Sweater Midday Cruise – If you’re in the Boston area on Thursday, December 12th and can sneak out of work a bit early for this event, we’d highly recommend doing so.  After all who doesn’t love an ugly sweater party?  Break out your best for this midday cruise from 3 – 5 PM and prepare to celebrate the holidays in style.  There will be music, dancing, a light lunch menu, and of course prizes for the best ugly sweater on board.  This cruise is aboard the Spirit of Boston and costs $26.90 per person and all guests ages 21 and over (with a valid ID) will receive a complimentary glass of sangria during boarding.
