Join Us In Supporting A Great Cause!

We are very excited to announce that we will be a Milestone Sponsor in this year’s Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) signature walk event!  “Walk Like MADD” is a non-competitive, family and pet friendly 5K Walk and also a MADD Dash, certified 5K Run which seek to raise awareness and funds for MADD.  This organization has a simple mission; they seek to stop drunk driving, support the victims of it, and prevent underage drinking.

Drunk driving not only risks the life of the driver and any passengers in their car, it also risks the lives of everyone else on the road.  The scary thing about that is that drunk driving and underage drinking are more common than you would think.  For example, did you know:

  •  If all 17 million people who admitted to driving drunk in the past year had their own state, it would be the fifth largest in the U.S.
  • On average, one in three people will be involved in a drunk driving crash in their lifetime.
  • Every 90 seconds, a person is injured in a drunk driving crash.
  • Every day in America, 30 people die as a result of drunk driving crashes.
  • Teen alcohol use kills about 6,000 people each year, more than all illegal drugs combined.
  • An average drunk driver has driven drunk 87 times before a first arrest.
  • One in three 8th graders has tried alcohol.
  • Drunk driving remains the primary cause of deaths on our highway.

If these statistics surprised you as much as they surprised us, you’ll understand why Mothers Against Drunk Driving is such a worthy cause to support.  Victims of drunk driving are more common than you think, they could be your neighbor down the street, a friend’s parent, or perhaps someone in your own family or group of friends.

We at MassDrive are proud to sponsor MADD’s event this year because their mission of keeping families and communities safe is one that we support as well.  We want everyone to drive responsibly, and if you plan on drinking alcohol make sure that you have a designated driver to get you home safely.  That’s a mission we can all support right?  If you want to join this year’s event, there are a few ways you can do it.  You can either register to walk, donate to MADD’s team, or volunteer!

The walk will take place on Sunday, April 26th at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield.  Registration begins at 10 AM and the opening ceremony will take place at 10:45 after a warm-up with Fitness Together.  Runners will take off at 11 AM followed by the walkers, and everyone is invited to join in on the fun and entertainment taking place after the 5K.

Charity Events This Month

festival

We all love going out to fun events, but why not head to something where you can have fun and give back to the community?  There are tons of fun charity events going on this September where you can have some laughs, meet new people, and help those that are less fortunate than you.  What’s not to like?

25th Annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk –  Presented by Hyundai, this annual walk allows participants to follow the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon route, and you can either walk the full route or there are three shorter options to choose from.  There is a $300 fundraising minimum and the money raised benefits the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and makes a major difference in their mission to cure all types of cancer.  The walk is set to take place on Sunday, September 8th and is the Jimmy Fund’s largest one-day fundraising event.  Can’t walk on the day of the event?  Sign up to volunteer, donate, or even become a virtual walker!  Whatever way you can help out on walk day is sure to make a major difference in the fight to find a cure, which is something we all want!

Play Fore Paws – Love to golf?  Sign up for the Play Fore Paws event taking place on September 8th at the Merrimack Valley Golf Club in Methuen!  The event benefits Survivor Tails Animal Rescue, an organization that rescues, rehomes, rehabilitates homeless, unwanted, abused, and neglected dogs and cats and places them in loving, responsible forever homes. Head to Methuen for a fun day of golf as well as a 4-person best ball, gift bag, and banquet award dinner.  There will be prizes for first, second, and last place as well as hole in one, longest drive, and closest to the pin prizes.  In addition to all of those awesome awards, there will also be a silent auction, raffle, and special appearance from some of the Patriots Cheerleaders!  The event begins at 12 noon and costs $150 per person, or $600 per foursome.  Not only will this be a day full of fun in the sun, but you’ll be helping out a wonderful cause and a lot of deserving animals!

Project Smile Charity Date Auction – Created by Project Smile to raise funds for traumatized children, this event is the perfect girls or guys night out and draws over 500 young professionals to Gypsy bar in Boston!  Project Smile will be auctioning off dates with 40 single police officers, fire fighters, and some of Boston’s most eligible men and women ages 21-45.  This event is Friday, September 14th from 6:30 – 9:00 PM and tickets are $17 and can either be purchased in advance or at the door.  There will be music, appetizers, a cash bar inside the event, and of course fun for all!

Life Is Good Festival – Taking place at Prowse Farm in Canton, this two day festival benefits the Life is Good Kids Foundation and will be from September 21st-22nd.  This event is a celebration of optimism and music, and there will be three stages of performances throughout the weekend along with plenty of activities, games, arts & crafts, and a “Good Kids Zone” for the little ones.  One day tickets cost $65 for adults, $20 for kids or you can purchase a two day ticket which costs $120 for adults and $35 for kids.   This year’s performers include Jack Johnson, The Roots, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Yo Gabba Gabba! for the kids, and many more.  This event is perfect for all members of the family, and supports a wonderful local cause so be sure to get your tickets before they sell out!

Which one of these events do you plan on attending?  They are all fun days or nights out and a great opportunity to meet new people, have a few laughs, and do a lot of good so don’t miss out!

Giving Back This Holiday Season!

The holiday season is a time for giving back to friends, family, and those that are less fortunate than ourselves.  There are many people right here in Massachusetts that need help more than ever, especially during this time of year.  We know that finances are tight but even donating your time to one of these events can make a huge difference!

Holiday Market To Benefit Breast Cancer Fund – This holiday bazaar is being hosted by William Raveis Real Estate on Saturday, December 1st at their Back Bay office in Boston.  Get a jump start on your holiday shopping and support a great cause at the same time.  All vendors are donating 10% of their proceeds to the William Raveis Breast Cancer Fund which benefits the American Cancer Society.  Local restaurants have provided light snacks and there will also be a 50/50 raffle and many other raffle items available.  Stop by this Saturday and find a truly unique gift for that special someone!

Winter Walk 2012 – This holiday season two of Boston’s biggest charities fighting homelessness , Homestart and Hearth are teaming up for Winter Walk 2012.  This event is a charity walk on the Boston Common December 2, 2012 that is about ending homelessness one step at a time.  These charities want to educate participants of the harsh realities of living outside during a New England winter, and encourage people to find out how they can help.  The first step is signing up for this walk, you can register online or on the day of the event.   Registration begins at 1 PM and Opening Ceremonies begin at 2 PM, followed by the walk.  The route consists of two laps around the Boston Common and ends with a cup of warm tea and a celebration amongst all walkers.  Sign up or donate today, winter is especially difficult on the local homeless and you can help make all of the difference for them this season!

Cookie Swap For A Cause – Who doesn’t love cookies?  Boston Food Swap is hosting their 2nd Annual Cookie Swap for a Cause on Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 2PM-5PM at Space With A Soul in Boston.   For every cookie that is swapped, the Glad to Give campaign will donate $1 to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to support research for new and improved pediatric cancer therapies.  If you bake over 4 dozen cookies, you get free admission!  If you make less than 4 dozen cookies, or don’t plan on baking and just wanted to enjoy some sugary goodness tickets are $15.  If you don’t plan on baking and purchase your ticket after December 2nd, tickets are $20 per person.  Tickets are limited so get them while they last and take this opportunity to support this children’s charity!

Globe Santa – This yearly program benefits local families and collects donations to provide holiday gifts to children in need.  This wonderful charity began in 1956 and has continuously provided support and holiday cheer to local families. Last year they raised over $1.2 million to help 32,240 local families during the holiday season and this year their goal is even bigger, $1.4 million!  100% of all donations go to the purchase and delivery of these gifts so every penny counts!  You can even host your own event to benefit the Globe Santa and stir up some healthy competition between Santa and his Elves, for more information click here.

However you choose to give back this holiday season, keep the less fortunate in mind!  Your time and donations are what help make their holidays merry and bright, and these organizations could not do nearly as much for their beneficiaries without the help of generous donors and volunteers!
