furry friend friday

It’s A Snowy, Furry Friend Friday With Casey!

It’s a snowy day here in Massachusetts but that’s not stopping us from interviewing Casey for Furry Friend Friday!  Casey is a beautiful yellow lab and although she’s a senior citizen, she still loves to run around like a puppy.

So Casey, what is you favorite way to spend the day?

Well, I really love spending the day with my dad, any thing we do is always fun. He’s definitely my favorite person to hang out with, every time I see his truck pull into the driveway I can’t help jumping up on the window sill and wagging my tail! I especially love when we lay out on the back patio and play a game of fetch now and then.  It’s so relaxing especially on a beautiful sunny day!

Is there a particular type of treat that you are partial to?

You know those rawhide bones that you can chew that are also good for your teeth? I love those so much they are definitely my favorite snack!  They last longer than a biscuit and freshen my breath, there’s nothing better than that crisp, refreshing feeling after you clean your teeth!

What is your biggest fear?

The stairs! They make me so nervous, I refuse to go up any big sets of steps.  When I was younger, I was climbing up a set of unfinished steps in the basement and my foot slipped through!  It scared me so much, I thought I was going to fall and there is no way I’m risking that happening again.  Other than that, small dogs make me very nervous so I try to avoid them.

Do you have a favorite place where you like to go for walks?

We live near Winchester High School and I love going there to run around the track.  I still get around pretty well too!  I have to keep my girlish figure in shape, summer is right around the corner after all!

Any chance you will be playing out in the snow today?

Maybe, as long as its not too windy outside.  I heard we could get over two feet so if I go out to play it will be early, I don’t want to get stuck in a snow bank!

Do you have any health concerns at your age?

Well, unfortunately I have two torn ACL muscles in my back legs.  Those are my biggest problem because they can be very painful.  I’m on medication which really helps a lot but am not at full capacity.  My injury  would require surgery and would be very expensive to fix.  Unfortunately we don’t have pet insurance so it’s not in the cards but I still get around really well and enjoy life to the fullest every day!

Casey’s injury is very common for labs.  All breeds typically have certain types of injuries that they are prone to them so do your research and find out what puts your pet(s) at risk.  It never hurts to prepare for the worst, having pet insurance can make all the difference in the world to your furry friend should anything happen to them.  Pets are like family, protect them like family and give us a call at MassDrive for a pet insurance quote today!

Furry Friend Friday With Hank!

We’re back at it again and today I got to chat with Hank!  Is it just me or are dogs so much cuter when they have human names?  Hank has a very interesting story, not only was he a rescue dog, but he was also born in California.  Here in Massachusetts he has a very busy life with his family so I’m lucky he was able to squeeze in this interview!

So Hank, what would you say you love to do most during the day?

Well, as a California native I love the sun, as you can imagine.  I could stay in my backyard all day and alternate between sunbathing, fetch, and chasing any squirrel that dares cross my path.  As a German Shorthaired Pointer, I am a bird dog which means I LOVE to chase birds, squirrels and any other small animal that I may see so that keeps me pretty entertained.  However, I don’t mind the winter because I also love snow.   I get so excited when it’s snowing out, there’s nothing better than running around in it before diving into a snow bank and making a snow angel!

Do you have a favorite toy?

Definitely my tennis ball!  I love to play fetch and could chase that thing for hours on end.  I use it a lot so it’s pretty beat-up but it never fails to entertain me.

Is there anything that you’re afraid of?

Well, I like to think I’m pretty tough but the one thing that gets to me is the water.  I’ve just never been a fan which is very unusual for dogs of my breed.  Although I did brave the water just once; it was to swim after a catfish I saw in Lake Winnipesaukee!  I guess I just can’t resist the chase and my instincts got the better of me, but even though I was scared, I almost caught him!

Where is your favorite place to go for a walk?

Back in California we used to go to the Pulgas River Reserve, that is my absolute favorite spot in the whole world to explore!  Out here in Massachusetts I like to go into the city because there are so many different things for me to smell!  The ocean, hotdogs, people, some trash now and then, you name it I’ve smelled it.  I also enjoy heading over to the Middlesex Fells Reservation, it’s near our house now and is a great spot for me to get in touch with nature.

Do you have any health concerns?

Well I’ve never had anything too serious happen to me other than a few scrapes and some minor health issues.  I had a decaying tooth removed once and cut my leg once when I was playing so I needed some staples in my leg.  Those are the worst things that have happened to me so I guess you could say I’ve been pretty lucky. My parents lucked out too because they’ve had pet insurance for me since they got me so nearly everything was covered!

Although he hasn’t had any serious injuries, Hank is a very playful dog which has resulted in a few bumps and bruises.  What dog doesn’t love to run around their yard and play?   You never know when they could scrape themselves or even accidentally break a bone.  Vet bills for such injuries can really add up, especially if your pet needs x-rays!  Give us a call at MassDrive today for a pet insurance quote, there’s no better feeling than knowing your best furry friends are protected!

Furry Friend Friday With Rupert!

Don’t the weeks just fly by when there’s Furry Friend Friday to look forward to?  Yes that’s right, I’m back interviewing another one of our four-legged friends! Today I sat down with Rupert and he was kind enough to venture all the way over to our office in the freezing cold, talk about dedication!  During his office visit I had a few questions for Rupert and he was more than happy to sit down with me and chat.

What is your favorite way to spend the day?

I just enjoy having my parents home, when they have to go to work during the week I get very upset because I know that I’m going to have to sit by myself all day, but when they’re home they always play with me and bring me (almost) everywhere!  Out of all of the places we go, I’d have to say Dunkin Donuts is my absolute favorite!  I can smell it before we even pull up and I usually get a bite of a plain munchkin!

Do you have a favorite toy?

I am a very spoiled boy and have A LOT of toys to choose from so this is tough!  Out of all my options though I would probably choose my plush squeaky bone!  It keeps me entertained for a while and it says “stud” on it which is very accurate if you ask me.  I also love Mr. Squirrel, he is as big as me and was one of my very first toys!  He is extra special to me so I’m very careful to not put any holes in him so he is in pretty good shape.

I noticed that you came dressed in your winter coat today, is that your favorite outfit?

Well I have a lot of different clothes but I really am not a fan of them.  I wear them in the fall and winter out of necessity because the cold really gets to me.  If I had a choice though I would go au naturale all the time, it’s so much more comfortable and easier for people to pet me!

What’s your favorite place to go for a walk?

I like to stay close to home, my back yard is really my favorite spot, and when I get the chance I love to run!  Believe it or not I’m pretty fast for a little guy, and I have so much energy that I can run for a while.

Do you have any fears?

In a word, YES.  I have a few actually.  My biggest fear is being alone, I hate when my parents leave!  I have pretty severe seperation anxiety so that is what makes me the most nervous.  Other than that, my mom got a stuffed snowman decoration for the holidays that scared me so much!  One day he just fell on me without anyone touching him!  How did he do it?!  I was nervous every time I walked by him after that but he has grown on me since then.

Any health concerns for the future?

Personally, my knee makes me nervous because I have something called a luxating patella.  It’s basically a fancy way of saying that my knee cap can shift and move around on me.  It can even lead to arthritis eventually and is an expensive fix!  Other than that I don’t have any concerns, but my parents do.  They worry about me because I had a little mishap a few months ago.  I found a mysterious object (I don’t even remember what it was) on the floor and ate it.  How can you blame me?  I’m still a puppy and will eat anything I can get my paws on, but whatever I ate upset my stomach so my parents rushed me to the animal hospital because they were so worried.  The vets wanted to do a lot of tests and keep me over night which was pretty pricey but luckily my parents got me pet insurance as soon as they got me! That only happened once but they get nervous about me eating anything other than my dinner or treats.

Pet insurance saved the day for Rupert, well, really for his parents but nevertheless, it made a bad day a little less stressful.  Tests are always expensive and keeping a pet in the hospital overnight will cost big bucks, however, most of Rupert’s bills from this incident were covered!  You never know when your pet may stumble onto something that they shouldn’t and you don’t want it to end up costing you an arm and a leg.  Not to mention Rupert’s knee condition which could eventually get worse and lead to many vet visits.  Give yourself the peace of mind of knowing that your pet’s medical bills will be taken care of!  The last thing any pet owner wants to do is deny their furry friend the treatment they need because of the cost.  Give us a call or click MassDrive for a pet insurance quote today!

Furry Friend Friday With Brodie!

Furry Friend Friday is back and this week I sat down with Brodie and got some insight into his life, and let me tell you, he is a very busy boxer!

So Brodie, what would you say is your favorite way to spend the day?

I LOVE playing with my little brother, Tyler! He is so much fun and we spend hours wrestling and playing, it keeps me young! Other than that I like running laps to burn off any extra energy I have.

What is your favorite treat?

Human food! It’s so good I wish I could have it for every meal! Luckily Tyler usually slips me a bite of whatever he’s eating so I make out pretty well.

Do you have a favorite toy?

I’d have to say my rawhide bone is my favorite toy, I guess it’s also a treat but it’s so much fun to gnaw on and run around with.  I also love my stuffed monkey toy, as you can see from my picture I like to spend time with him when Tyler’s busy.

What is your favorite place to go for a walk?

I don’t really have a favorite spot, I love going anywhere and everywhere! I’ll take any chance I can to get out of the house, but I especially love when we take rides to Maine because I get to run free in the wide open spaces up there.

I’d imagine that as a boxer you would be pretty tough but is there anything you’re afraid of?

Well my mom thinks I’m a big baby because I was afraid of her old cat, which I guess is true.  I think I’m a pretty good watch dog though, I bark a lot whenever the door bell rings so that everyone knows someone is there.  I may jump all over them and smother them in kisses once they’re inside but what can I say? Even though I’m a boxer I’m really a lover not a fighter.

Do you have any health concerns for the future?

Well, I had cancer when I was 3 years old (human years that is) and that was very scary.  My mom and dad made sure it was removed and took great care of me so I have been fine since, but I’m nervous that it could come back one day.  Luckily my parents have pet insurance so most of the bills from my doctors appointments and surgery were covered!

Even as a young dog, Brodie had unexpected medical issues that would have been extremely costly were it not for his pet insurance.  We strongly urge all of you pet parents to call us up for a quote! You never know when your pet’s health could be in jeopardy and dealing with that is stressful enough without having to worry about the cost of potentially life saving procedures! Furry Friend Friday With Barley!

It’s that time of the week again!   Today I was able to sit down with Barley, you may recognize him from our Facebook page as he has made a few trips into the office and is quite a ham for the camera!  Not only does he love getting his picture taken (isn’t he adorable?), but he was also very excited to sit down with me and tell me about his day to day activities as a puppy.  If you have ever had the pleasure of owning a puppy, you know how high energy they can be so getting him to sit still for this interview was quite an accomplishment!

What is your favorite way to spend the day?

Well, I’d have to say one of my favorite things to do is to chew on anything and everything!  I love to find a good shoe to gnaw on if I can’t find any of my toys, and if I can’t find a shoe, I’ll take anything else that’s laying around, even the remote control!  Sometimes my parents will even chase me around the house which is so much fun, it’s like an indoor game of fetch!

Do you have a favorite toy?

I love all of my toys!  I have so many different kinds, I love the stuffed ones but they usually don’t last too long, somehow their stuffing always seems to come flying out just when I start having fun with them!  Other than that, I would have to say my all time favorite toy is my frisbee, I love going outside and chasing after it, what a rush!

What is your favorite place to go for a walk?

I love taking trips to Bird Park in Walpole!  It is so much fun, there is so much space to run around and I get to see my friends!  I love running around with them and getting out and about in the fresh air, it’s refreshing after being in the house all day.

What would you say is your biggest fear?

I like to think that I’m a very brave puppy, most of my friends are scared of the vacuum or or other loud noises but not me, bring it on!  I even love getting my baths!  If I had to pick something though, I would say that those plastic neon “go children slow” signs make me pretty nervous.  Sometimes I think they are a real person until I get close enough to see that they are fake!  That must be what makes me so skiddish, but why do they want me to slow down?  Guess that’s just one of those things I’ll never understand.

Do you have any health concerns for the future?

I’m not afraid of much, I’m young and tough but my parents get nervous when I try to eat their socks!  I don’t know why they’re always trying to take them away from me, they say that they’re bad for me if I eat them but they smell so good I can’t resist!  Actually, they try to take away a lot of the things I want to eat because they say they are bad for me, so I guess I wouldn’t want to eat anything that would make me sick!

Puppies like Barley aren’t always as wise as older dogs and can be prone to eating anything and everything in sight!  This can include things that they shouldn’t be able to get their paws on, but accidents happen.  There are many foods that are bad for our pets that they can’t digest such as chocolate, grapes, onions, and much more.  We may know that, but our furry friends don’t always know what is good and bad for them so they rely on us to keep them healthy.  If they do manage to get ahold of food that is bad for them or even an old sock, it can make them extremely sick and they would have to go to the vet right away, which can get pretty costly.  Pet insurance is a great safety net to have if you’re a pet owner.  It can save you hundreds of dollars at the vet should an accident like this occur, and gives owners peace of mind knowing that their furry friend is protected should the unexpected happen.  Believe it or not it is also relatively inexpensive, especially if you have a younger pet!  Interested?  Call or click MassDrive for a quote from one of our agents!

Furry Friend Friday With Meatball!

Here at MassDrive we love our pets, from time to time they even stop by the office for a visit! That’s why we have decided to begin a series of blog postings called Furry Friend Friday!  This week I was able to sit down with my own furry friend, Meatball.  You may recognize him from some of the MassDrive videos we have posted as his picture can be seen in the background of many shots.  I had a few questions for Meatball and he was gracious enough to take some time from his busy schedule to sit down with me.

What is your favorite way to spend the day?

Personally I’m a bit of a couch potato, I could lounge around on the couch all day if I had the choice.  Don’t get me wrong though, I still like to get out and about in the fresh air from time to time.

Where is your favorite place to go for a walk?

Don’t let my looks fool you, even though I’m a senior citizen I love to go to the beach and hit the ground running!  There’s something about feeling the sand between my toes that makes me feel young again.

I know you are a fan of treats, but out of all of your options what would you say is your favorite kind?

There are so many options, how can I pick one? I’ll eat pretty much anything, but my all time favorite treat is something with peanut butter flavoring!  Of course nothing compares to people food, but I don’t get to have it that often sadly enough.

What would you say is your biggest fear?

Two words; THE VET!  As if having to ride in the car isn’t bad enough, sometimes when I get out we are at the dreaded vet’s office!  I’m not being a baby either, have you seen how they take my temperature?!  The floor is slippery, the smells always get to me, and to top it off there’s usually some young pup jumping all over me!  Unfortunately I’ve had to go a little more often than usual lately, just typical aches and pains but it is always traumatizing!

What is your biggest health concern for the future?

As a lab mix I am prone to issues with my hips, they already bother me a bit but the hip and joint supplements that I take are a big help.  Other than that my biggest concern is anything that would bring me to the vet’s office!

Meatball is a perfect example of why pet owner’s should get insurance for their furry friends.  Having an insurance policy for your pet is relatively inexpensive,  and can save you hundreds of dollars should you have to make a visit to the vet.  Call up one of our representatives today or click MassDrive for a quote!
