The Importance Of Pet Insurance: Why All Pet Parents Should Invest

pet insurance

Here at MassDrive, we love our pets, and we’re guessing you love your pets too, that’s why we think it is so important for all pet owners to invest in pet insurance for their furry friends!  Our pets are like members of our own family why not protect them like it?  Humans have health insurance, and your furry friend should get them same care if they were to become sick!

Many animal shelters that have pets up for adoption often offer complimentary pet insurance for the first month after adoption, and then after that it’s up to the owner to purchase another policy.  Policies are not as expensive as you would think, and it is definitely more affordable for most people to pay a small amount of money over a long period of time rather than having to pay a vet bill all at once.  Vet bills can add up quickly, even a simple check-up can be costly if you don’t have insurance.  If you’re going to the vet for anything more complex than a check-up it will likely be even more expensive, even costing thousands of dollars depending on the severity of the animal’s injury or sickness.  For some, spending thousands of dollars on their pet at once is not possible, and as pet owners ourselves we know that we would never want to deny potentially life-saving care to our furry friends just because of the cost.

The cost of your monthly payment depends on a few factors, what type of pet you have, their age, and breed.  The older your dog is, the more expensive your monthly payment will be.  Purchasing pet insurance for your pet as soon as you adopt it is the best advice we can give.  It will be less expensive and you may be eligible for potential discounts the longer you remain with the same carrier.  Another reason why it’s better to get pet insurance sooner rather than later is because pet insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions.  If you get pet insurance for your cat or dog as soon as it’s adopted, anything that it comes down with after you purchase a policy would be covered.

Bringing your pet to the vet is inevitable, so why not be prepared?  Older pets typically have more health problems than younger pets and younger pets are more likely to find some type of trouble to get themselves into.  Whether they escape the yard and come back with a bunch of ticks, or eat something that makes them sick, eventually they will get into something that they shouldn’t.

The bottom line we’re trying to make is that anything can happen when you least expect it, that’s why they call it an accident.  Don’t break the bank paying for the vet, give us a call for a pet insurance quote today!  Our pet insurance policies are through the ASPCA and reimburse up to 90% of usual and customary covered charges, depending on state availability and you can use ANY licensed vet in the United States and Canada!  Have more than one pet?  You can save up to 10% on your policy if you have multiple pets!  These policies only cover cats and dogs, however if you have a bird or reptile, there are other carriers that can write policies for them, ask your vet to recommend one today!

Furry Friend Friday With Ringo!

ringo

Happy Furry Friend Friday everyone!  To kick off Memorial Day weekend, I got to sit down with Ringo and ask him a few questions!  This three year old, lab mix is up for adoption with Second Chance Animal Shelter and has been waiting for his forever home for a while now!

Ringo, I like your name, are you a fan of the Beatles?

Who doesn’t like a Beatles song or two?!  Can’t say that I have a favorite though, there are way too many to choose from!

What would you say is your favorite way to spend the day?

I love being around people, regardless of what they are doing!  I’ve been at the shelter for about three months now, and I get to spend time with the volunteers which is fun, but I’m really waiting for my forever home and new best friend!  I have a lot of energy because I’m still pretty young, so I LOVE to be outside too!  Going for walks is one of my favorite things to do, I’m very curious and love getting to smell the fresh air! After a nice long walk, I like to come home and relax in the yard or cuddle!

Do you have a favorite place that you like to go for walks?

Not in particular, I just love being out and about with people, no matter where we go!  I would be the perfect companion for a young couple or family with older children.  Don’t get me wrong, I like little kids but their screaming and yelling is a little too much for me sometimes.  I’m very energetic too so I wouldn’t want to get too excited and knock them down accidentally.

What about a favorite toy?

I love the rubber kong toys that you can put peanut butter in!  It’s like a toy and a treat combined into one!  Does it get any better?  Those can keep me occupied for a pretty long time, I can chew on it, play fetch with it, basically use it for anything!

What about fears? Is there anything that scares you?

I really don’t like going back in my kennel!  I can’t stand being locked up, I would much rather be sitting on the closest lap or cuddling!  I get pretty stressed out in my cage, so the sooner I get out of here and find my forever home, the better!

Ringo why do you think all pets should have pet insurance?

Well sometimes life throws you circumstances that are out of your control, and vet bills are not affordable for everyone!  All pets deserve to be protected like every member of your family!

Ringo is right, and as he knows from experience, life can throw you circumstances that are beyond your control.  One thing that you can control is making sure your furry friend gets the best possible care if they do become sick or have an accident.  There is no feeling worse than not being able to give your pet everything they need to live a healthy and happy life, so call us at MassDrive for a pet insurance quote today!

Furry Friend Friday With Aurora!

aurora

Happy Friday everyone, it’s a beautiful day out there, and Aurora was nice enough to take a moment out of her play time for our interview!  This little pup is up for adoption at the Sterling Animal Shelter, she’s been there for a little over a week and most of her peers have already found homes, so she is ready for her forever family!

Aurora, thank you so much for taking the time to sit down with me, I noticed you were outside running around with some friends, is that your favorite thing to do?

Yes!  I love getting outside and running around in the grass, especially on a beautiful day like this, not too hot, not too cold, it’s perfect!  I have a lot of energy and playing fetch and running around outside are my favorite pastimes, after that cuddling is my favorite thing to do, but I can’t sit still until I burn off all my energy first!

Do you have a favorite toy here at the shelter?

We are really lucky here, we get to share all of the toys so there is always something new to play with!  Like I said fetch is one of my favorite things to do so I love my ball, it would be nice to have toys of my very own in a real home though.

Is there anything that scares you?

Not really, I’m just a puppy so I’m very happy.  I’m not a nervous puppy either, I’d rather spend my time playing than worrying!

That’s good to know, since you are so fearless you must love adventures, do you have a favorite place to go for a walk?

Well since I’m at the shelter we don’t go too far, my volunteer friends bring me outside a lot though and I absolutely love it, anytime I can get out is exciting for me. They bring me out a lot because we are working on my leash training, I’m not perfect yet but am practicing!  I was originally from Tennessee and there were a lot of places to roam around down there, I hope that my new family brings me on a lot of adventures because I love to explore!

Aurora, why do you think pet insurance is important for all pet owners?

Well if you ask me, I don’t have enough money to pay my own bills, and vet visits can really add up, especially when they are unexpected!  Pet insurance takes the worry out of bringing your pet to the vet (at least for you), and small monthly payments can be a lot more affordable than one big chunk of money upfront!

Aurora’s right, vet bills can really add up! These bills can be extremely costly, and no one wants to pay a huge amount of money all at once, affordable monthly payments are all it takes to insure your pet’s health, so call us up for a pet insurance quote today! If you’re interested in adopting Aurora, please contact the Sterling Animal Shelter.

Furry Friend Friday With Mya!

pit bull

We’re back again and today we’re bringing you yet another exciting interview despite the snow storm.  Today I got to interview Mya, and let me tell you she is a very lucky girl!  Mya lives out in Arizona with one of the sales representatives from our office in Phoenix, so fortunately for her she’s hasn’t had to step foot in any snow!  I let her know that those of us here in Massachusetts are very jealous of the beautiful weather they have out there!

So Mya, what is your favorite thing to do?

Well, I am a very curious girl.  Anywhere I go I love to explore my surroundings and investigating every new sight and smell.  I also love being around my people, they are so much fun and are always doing something interesting or eating something new, I’m sure you can imagine how much I love finding scraps of left over food if they spill some around the house.  After thoroughly investigating my surroundings, I like to take a nice long nap.

Do you have a favorite toy that you like to play with?

My favorite toy is my pink monkey!  She is my best friend and I try to bring her everywhere with me.  Whether I’m taking a snooze or hanging around outside, my pink monkey is by my side.  My people always play with me and sometimes they even try to throw my monkey, but don’t worry; I always run after her and pick her up as fast as I can!

Is there anything you’re afraid of?

Well I’m not afraid of much, the only thing that makes me nervous is my brother, Andre.  We don’t live together, but I still get to see him a lot because my owner and his owner are brothers!  Ironic isn’t it?  Anyways we got into a little scuffle when I was younger and he is a lot tougher than I am so I try to stay out of his way.  I’m not saying he’s mean or anything, sometimes he just doesn’t know his own strength and gets a little too rough.  I just hope people aren’t afraid of me, I’m a pitbull and we may look tough, but I’m really just a big love bug and wouldn’t hurt a fly!

What’s your favorite place to go for a walk?

I love walking all over our neighborhood, the weather here in Phoenix has been perfect for dog walking lately!  There’s a grassy field near our house that we go to a lot, I love running around and playing fetch on a nice warm day!  Even when it gets hot out, it’s not as humid here as it is for you all in Massachusetts!

Do you have any health concerns?

Not at the moment, I am a very healthy young girl!  The only time I had to go to the vet (besides yearly check-ups) was after I got into that scuffle that I already told you about.  Like I said, sometimes my brother just doesn’t know his own strength and it started off as playing but eventually I ended up at the vet’s office and needed a few stitches.

Lucky for her owner, Mya is a happy healthy four year old girl.  However, dogs of any age can get injured accidentally, whether it’s by another dog or something else, and the vet bills that follow such injuries can be expensive!  Give us a call at MassDrive for a pet insurance quote, there are no restrictions on any type of breed so all cats and dogs (including pitbulls) are welcome!

Furry Friend Friday With Roxie!

roxie

We’re back at it again, for today’s Furry Friend Friday I sat down with Roxie!  Roxie is a boxer who is entering her golden years, but that doesn’t stop her from getting out and about!  Today she was nice enough to sit down with me and answer a few questions about her day to day routine.

Roxie, what is your favorite way to spend the day?

Well I used to be more active when I was younger, but I still love going for a ride in the car, shot gun of course!  Other than that my main interests are eating big meals, being around my family, playing with my fellow K9 friends, and sun bathing for a few hours.  What could be better?

Do you have a favorite toy?

My rope toy! I could play with that for hours on end if someone will play tug of war with me!  You may think that toys are just for puppies but us older dogs still like to play!

What about a favorite treat?

CHEESE!  I am a cheese fiend and will do anything for it!

I’m sure as a boxer you are very brave, but is there anything that does scare you?

It’s ironic that I am a boxer because my mom would tell you I’m a big baby.  Even though I look tough, loud noises make me jump.  Thunder is the worst though, it always gets to me!

Where is your favorite place to go for a walk?

I love to explore the woods near my house, there are so many things to smell and new sights to see!  If we don’t go for a walk in the woods, I’m perfectly content to roam around my yard.  We have an electric fence so I can pretty much go wherever I please.  When I was younger I loved to dig up all of the flowers in our yard after running around for a bit, it got rid of all of my extra energy but my parents are glad that I stopped.

Do you have any health concerns?

I’ve been very fortunate in the past and didn’t have many issues at all, however now that I am getting a little older the problems are starting to creep up on me.  I recently had an ear infection, staph infection, and then I pulled a muscle in my shoulder!  I am also becoming allergic to something, however it is still a mystery as to what it is so that will require some tests.  As you can see I have a few minor issues, but they racked up some major vet bills!

Unfortunately, Roxie does not have pet insurance.  Even though she had somewhat minor issues, they resulted in major vet bills which can be a financial burden for some.  Give us a call at MassDrive today and get a pet insurance quote for your furry friend!  There’s no better feeling than knowing your four-legged friend is protected against the unexpected!
