According to the Wall Street Journal the United Postal Service (UPS) expects to ship 400 million packages between Christmas and Thanksgiving, slightly up from last year. December 21st UPS projects a massive total of 22 million shippings. Their rival FedEx is expected to ship more than 13 million pacakges on their busiest day of 2009 as well. This projection is an 8% increase from the 12 million packages sent on FedEx’s busiest day of 2008. Both UPS and FedEx are closely watched as economic indicators for clues into the strength of the upcoming holiday-season shopping. Maybe we are pulling ourselves out of this recession…
