Furry Friend Friday With Elvira!

We’re back with your Friday pick-me-up!  Our special guest for today’s Furry Friend Friday interview is named Elvira!  This pretty lady is a 3 year-old cat who’s up for adoption at the Lowell Humane Society, she’s been there since June so she’s definitely overdue to find a family of her own!

So Elvira, how does a pretty girl like you wind up in a shelter?

Well, I actually used to have a family, but they moved and unfortunately couldn’t bring me with them, so I ended up here.  I came in with my brother, Merlin.  We’ve been together since we were kittens, so we’re very close and would love to go to a home together, although it’s not a requirement.

What’s your favorite way to spend the day?

I’m still young so I’m very playful!  When I get really excited I do “happy paws” and roll on my back with my paws in the air while I play with my toys, it’s pretty funny if you saw it in person.  After I’ve gotten my energy out, I enjoy sitting on window sills and just watching the world go by.  I also LOVE getting brushed.  Have you ever had someone just sit there and brush your hair?  Well let me tell you, it is amazing, especially for me with my long, luxurious fur!

It sounds  like you are a very fun lady!  Do you have a favorite toy to play with?

I really like chasing after laser beams, it never gets old for me!  I could chase after those all day, it’s a great way to keep my girlish figure in shape!

Is there anything that scares you?

I hate to admit it, but I am very scared of dogs.  They’re usually not that friendly towards me, sometimes they growl, or even try to chase me!  If you ask me, that’s just plain rude.  Who can blame me though?  Wouldn’t you be nervous if a giant, barking dog was chasing after you?  I thought so.

What do you think would be the perfect family for you?

I could really fit in with any loving family, as long as they could handle me being so active.  Like I said, even though it’s not required, I would really really love to go to a home with my brother Merlin.  I can also be shy at first when meeting new people, but I warm up very quickly.  When it comes to kids, the shelter thinks I would be good with them, as long as they were school age and cat-savvy.

Elvira, why do you think pet insurance is a good thing for all pet parents to consider?

I’m no doctor, but if I had to guess I’d say that pet illnesses and accidents are pretty common.  I’ve seen a lot of pets coming and going from the vet’s office, and while I’m sure they’re excited when they leave, their owners seem to be pretty upset when they see the bill.  Pet insurance seems like a good way to make sure your pets can get fixed up by the vet without their owners having to break the bank.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!  Pets get sick just like people do, and their vet bills can be just as expensive as human medical bills.  Call us today for a free pet insurance quote and take the first step to protecting your furry friend’s future!

Furry Friend Friday With Pangea!

Did you know that June is Adopt A Shelter Cat Month?  To celebrate we’re featuring this pretty kitty named Pangea, she’s 10 years-old and is currently up for adoption at the Lowell Humane Society and is a celebrity in her own right down at the shelter!

So Pangea, I hear that you’re a very popular girl at the shelter, and that you’re even the face of an upcoming event, is that correct?

Yes!  I’m actually very excited for this event! It’s called the Greater Lowell Community Foundations River Ride on Saturday, September 27th.  It’s a giant bike ride and our team is called the Phat Cat Riders, we’re aiming to raise awareness for pet obesity.  I’m the face of the campaign because I’ve had my share of weight issues, I came into the shelter weighing 26 pounds and now I’m down to 22 pounds!  I still have a ways to go, but this event is motivating me to get healthy and be looking my best!  The good news about this event is that our team is being sponsored by Anytime Fitness! so if you sign up to ride with us and commit to raise $100 for  the shelter, your registration fee will be waived and you’ll get a t-shirt with my face on it!

So besides working on your fitness, what else do you like to do in your free time?

Well, I love to be around people, so I get to spend a lot of time in the office at the shelter.  I love being petted, and I’m very vocal when I want some attention, so you’ll hear me meow a lot.  I love to sit by people’s feet too, but now that I’m losing some weight I’m a little more active and enjoy playing with toys.  I also love cardboard boxes, there’s just something about them that I can’t get enough of!

Do you have a favorite toy?

Now that I’ve lost a little weight, I’m more playful, and some of my favorite toys so far are those little balls with bells inside them!  I like to chase them around, even though I can’t go that fast yet, but I’ll get there!  I’ve also discovered a fascination with laser pointers, so if you have one of those I’m sure we’ll get along.

Is there anything that scares you?

I get very nervous during thunder storms!  They’re so loud so I always run under the bed to hide when one of them is on its way.

What do you think would be the perfect family for you?

I could really fit in anywhere, I love all types of people, and I even get along with most dogs!  I love birds too, they’re so fun to watch so if you have some of those that would be great!  My only request is to go to a home that can help me continue on my weight loss mission.  I need someone who can spend time playing with me and getting me to move around so I can get in shape for bathing suit season!

Pangea, why do you think pet insurance is a good investment for all pet parents to consider?

Well, pets can easily get sick, in fact I may have had a rough path ahead of me if I hadn’t started losing weight.  Pet insurance seems like a good way to make sure your pets can get the care they need should any unexpected illnesses or accidents occur.

Pangea is right!  Pets wind up in the vet’s office all the time, and unfortunately you can’t always plan it around your pay schedule.  Pet insurance is an affordable way to make sure you can get your pet the vet care they need.  Call one of our agents today for a free pet insurance quote!

Furry Friend Friday With Lilly!

As if Friday’s weren’t exciting enough, today we’re here with Lilly to brighten up your day even more!  This adorable, 7 year-old girl is up for adoption at the Lowell Humane Society, and even though she loves her friends at the shelter she’s ready to find a family of her own!

So Lilly, what’s your favorite way to spend the day?

Hmm where should I start? I love playing outside, that’s probably my favorite thing to do.  What?  Did you think that because I’m 7 years old I’d be a couch potato?  I’m still very active and love playing fetch and going for walks!  Now that the weather is warming up, I love laying in the grass and soaking up some sun too.  If I had to choose my all-time favorite thing to do though, it would be to be around my people, I’m a true love bug and really warm up to people once I get to know them!

Since you love to play, do you have a favorite toy?

It’s so hard to choose!  I love all toys but I’d have to say I’m most partial to things I can play fetch with, like balls and frisbees.  Kong toys are also fun, and who doesn’t love those plush squeaky ones?  The only thing is that I tend to chew on my toys, so they have to be sturdy if they’re going to last long around me!

Is there anything that scares you?

I do tend to get nervous around loud noises.  I know I look tough, but I’m a real softie on the inside.  I can also be a little shy around new people, I just like to take my time to get to know new faces but as soon as I warm up to them, I’ll be begging them for belly rubs!

What do you think would be the perfect family for you?

Well I really want to find the perfect forever home, and I’ve been here at the shelter for over 2 months now so it’s taking a little longer than I would have hoped.  I do have some specific requirements, such as being the only pet.  I get a little nervous around other dogs and don’t really like small animals like cats.  I would also do best in an adult-only home just because of my size.  Other than that I would really appreciate a quiet home without loud noises that scare me and a home where I can get plenty of exercise.  I know that’s a lot to ask for, but I promise I’m worth it!  Plus I’m fully trained and housebroken, so my family wouldn’t have to deal with puppy antics, I’m way too mature for that.

Lilly, why do you think pet insurance is a good thing for all pet parents to consider?

Well I know I’m no expert, but I think that as a pet part of my job is to protect my family, and I hope that they would protect me if I needed it!  Pet insurance seems like a good way to make sure your pets are protected if they ever needed vet care that would otherwise be extremely expensive.

Lilly is a very smart girl, and we couldn’t have said it better ourselves!  Pets are family, and they do their best to protect us so as owners it’s our job to return the favor!  Call one of our agents today for a free pet insurance quote and take the first step in protecting your furry friend!

Furry Friend Friday With Kittery!

Happy Furry Friend Friday everyone!  Meet Kittery, easy enough name to remember right?  Her being a kitty and all.  This girl is up for adoption at the Lowell Humane Society in Lowell and is ready to be your new best friend!

So Kittery, what’s your favorite way to spend the day?

Well I love being around people, and here at the shelter they call me the “office cat” and let me hang out in the office with the staff instead of in my cage, how awesome is that!  I’m a very simple girl, I like to kick back an relax and be around my people.  I don’t really ask for much more than that, maybe just a sunny spot near the window so I can watch the world go by.  Oh and maybe my donut pillow that I have here, I love curling up in a ball and getting nice and cozy on it. Even though I’m a young girl, I’m not very playful, I can be sometimes, but I have to be in the mood.

Do you have a favorite treat?

I’m not picky when it comes to treats, I’ll take almost anything as long as it comes with being petted too!

Is there anything you’re afraid of?

Not really, nothing really terrifies me that I can think of, but I can be shy around new people sometimes.  The staff here all said that I warmed up to them rather quickly though, so that must be a good thing!  The only other thing that can make me a bit nervous is big dogs that aren’t friendly, but can you blame me?  I’m usually indifferent towards most dogs if they leave me alone, it’s the ones that don’t leave me alone that make me nervous.

What do you think would be the perfect family for you?

Well since I’m so laid back, I think I would do best with a family that’s laid back too.  I’m really looking to be someone’s companion and best friend, so would do well with an older couple or family with older kids I think.  Oh and I wouldn’t want to go to a home with a dog that would be around me all the time, those are my only conditions and if you think your home would be a good fit I would love to meet you!

Why do you think pet insurance is a good thing for all pet parents to consider getting?

Well I think all parents want the best for their kids, even the furry ones!  Pet insurance seems like a good way to be as prepared for the unexpected as you can possibly be.

Kittery is right, as pet owners ourselves, we know how important furry friends are, they’re party of the family, so they should be protected like it.  That’s why we offer pet insurance as one of our products so that you can keep all of your valuables safe, even the ones with four legs!  Call one of our agents for a free pet insurance quote today!
