Furry Friend Friday With Bran!

_MG_5179 (1)

Still don’t have a Valentine for Valentine’s Day?  Look no further!  This face is about as cute as they come and Bran is looking for his new best friend!  This cute little puppy is about 6 months old and is up for adoption at the Sterling Animal Shelter.

So Bran, I hear you are not originally from Massachusetts, is that true?

You’re right, I came all the way here from Virginia!  I was a stray there and then got rescued and brought to good old Massachusetts and love it so far!  I’m sure I will love it even more once I find my forever home and can go on adventures with my new family!

What’s your favorite way to spend the day?

Well I have a lot of energy so I like to do a lot of different things.  I am very playful and love toys!  We are very lucky here at the shelter because we get new toys every day, so I always have tons of options to choose from!  I also love being around people and getting my belly rubbed.  The staff here are very accommodating and love to give me belly rubs, although I don’t give them much of a choice, whenever they come into the room I always roll over on my back so they can scratch my belly, they think it’s so funny!

Is there anything that scares you?

Not that I can think of, I’m pretty lucky and haven’t been around too many scary things in my time, so I think of myself as Mr. Tough Guy.

What do you think would be the perfect family for you?

Well I would really get along with anyone!  Dogs, kids, you name it and I’ll get along with it!  I would just need to be with a family that understands my needs as a puppy and who know how much work I can be!  I will need to go to some training classes to perfect my manners but I’m a smart puppy and can pick things up quickly.  I would also love to go with a family that likes to do fun things like play ball and go on hikes or to fun, new places!

Bran, why do you think pet insurance is a good thing for all pet parents to consider?

Well I’m not too old so I don’t have much experience with things like this but it sounds like something that could be pretty important.  Family is family whether they have two legs or four, and all family members should have the same protection if they get sick and need to go to the doctor’s office or the vet.

Bran is a smart cookie, and he’s right when he says that family is family whether they have two legs or four.  Get your furry friend the gift of pet insurance this Valentine’s Day and show them how much you love them!  Call our agents for a free quote and take the first step on the path to protecting your furry friend.  You can’t prevent accidents, but you can be prepared for them with pet insurance.

If you think Bran is cute, take a look at his friend Alan!  You can read his Furry Friend Friday interview here.

Fenway Park Winter Lights Show – Who wouldn’t love to spend Valentine’s Day at “America’s Most Beloved Ballpark”?  Lucky for you Fenway is offering daily tours and a light show through the month of February, so you can spend Valentine’s Day at the park taking in a romantic display of lights with the Boston skyline in the background!  Show your valentine how creative you are by heading to this unique event instead of a typical dinner date. Tours are at 4, 5, and 6 PM and cost $15 per person.  Tickets are available on a first-come,  first-served basis and are for sale on the day of the event at the Gate D Ticket Booth.  This event is perfect for couples, friends, or even families on Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day Dinner Cruise – If you’re really trying to impress someone special this year, take them on a harbor cruise around Boston aboard the Odyssey.  Not only will there be amazing views of the Boston skyline, there will also be live music paired with a DJ, and an impressive dinner and dessert menu.  What could be more romantic than floating around the harbor, dancing to live music, and enjoying a top of the line meal?  This event is a bit pricey with tickets starting at $109.90 per person but also includes a champagne toast and rose for each couple.  Boarding begins at 6 PM and the cruise lasts from 7 – 10 PM.  To make a reservation for this event call (866) 307-2469.

Flirt Fest At The Bell In Hand – For all of you singles out there, this is the place to be on Valentine’s Day.  Have an amazing pick-up line or one that’s equally as horrible?  You might just win their Best & Worst Pick-Up Line Contest, and best case scenario it might even get you a date.  This Anti-Valentine’s Day event will feature a reception, a DJ, dancing, and awards for Boston’s biggest Male and Female Flirts.  The event will last from 7 PM – midnight and tickets range from $10-$20, get them while they last!

Tasting At The Wine Bottega – For those of you that are over 21, you won’t want to miss this event on Valentine’s Day.  Everyone loves a nice glass of wine, especially when it’s free!  This is the perfect way to start your night before going out to a nice dinner, stop by from 5-8 PM and sip on their unique selection of wines that have been carefully selected for this event.  The Wine Bottega is located right on Hanover Street in Boston’s North End so there will be plenty of options to choose from for a nice meal after you enjoy a few samples of wine.

If you plan on having a low key Valentine’s Day, you can always grab a bottle of wine, some take out, and stream your favorite romantic comedies on Netflix, but if you ask us these events sound too fun to miss!

Furry Friend Friday With Tela!

Tela

Happy Friday everyone, hope that you all enjoyed your Valentine’s Day celebrations!  Today I got to chat with a love bug named Tela, she is an eight year old Wheaten Terrier with a lot of energy!

Tela, I have to say you have a very pretty and unique name!

Thank you!  I was actually named after a Phish song, they are my dad’s favorite band!

So Tela, what is your favorite way to spend the day?

My favorite thing to do is sit in my chair in the living room, my parents always laugh at me because I sit just like a human!  I like to call it my perch,  it is right next to the window so I have a great view of our yard and can just sit there while I watch the world go by.  If there is a lot going on outside, like my neighborhood friends going out for walks or some squirrels running by I get VERY excited!  Once I get excited I run outside so I can do some laps and  burn off all my extra energy!

Do you have a favorite treat?

Every day when my babysitter, Maureen, arrives the first thing she does is give me a treat!  I am a very lucky girl because I usually get a mini hotdog treat, they look like the real thing but are just for dogs.

What about a favorite toy?

I have a habit of destroying most of my toys, I don’t even mean to do it though!  I guess I just play a little too rough some times but the one thing that I am very careful with is my lovey, it is a froggie blanket that I sleep with every night.  I don’t even try to play with it though because I don’t want to risk hurting it!

Is there anything that you’re afraid of?

I can’t stand when there is a low battery in the smoke detectors!  The constant beeping makes me nervous and the sound is so high pitched that it hurts my ears so those are probably my biggest fear.  I never know how long it is going to take for my parents to turn it off and what if it happens when I’m home alone?  The sound drives me crazy!

With so much energy you must love to go for walks, do you have a favorite route?

You’re right I do love to go for walks.  I’ll follow my dad around all day if I think he might bring me out, there are so many things to see and smell right outside of my own back yard!  Lately we have been going for walks up the Parkway to the water town in West Roxbury which is nice.  There is a great view of Boston and it’s a nice spot for me to go and enjoy some “me time”.  Other than that I enjoy our family hikes on Martha’s Vineyard, there’s nothing better than tiring myself out on a walk before watching the sun set on the beach!

Do you have any health concerns for the future?

Well my parents recently found a lump on me that made us very nervous.  They took me to the vet but it turned out to be some fatty tissue, I don’t even know how that happened though because I am a very active and sleek young lady if you ask me.  My parents were relieved that it was something so minor, luckily we have pet insurance so either way my medical bills would have been covered.

Fatty tumors are very common on all breeds of dogs but can resemble cancerous tumors.  This is a scary situation for any pet owner and you won’t have peace of mind until you know whether or not it is cancerous.  Tests and biopsies can really add up which is why pet insurance is so essential when it comes to properly caring for your furry friend!  Give us a call at MassDrive and get a pet insurance quote, you won’t regret being prepared to take the best possible care of your pet if the time comes!

Give The Gift Of Peace Of Mind This Valentine’s Day

We know that Valentine’s Day is a very popular day to give jewelry or even get engaged, but have you love birds thought about insuring your purchase?  It’s definitely an option to consider, especially if you plan on gifting a piece of jewelry that has a lot of monetary or sentimental value. The best part about it is that it’s very easy to insure your jewelry!

The easiest way to insure your engagement ring or any other valuable jewelry you may have is to add it on as an extension of your homeowners’ or renters’ insurance policy.  Your renters’ or homeowners’ policy does cover the items in your home, but only up to a certain amount. Specialty items that are more valuable such as art, electronics, and jewelry should be covered seperately as they will likely exceed your personal property coverage.

Wouldn’t you want to have the peace of mind knowing that your most sentimental and valuable jewelry is covered if lost or stolen?  Your items would be covered for the full amount of their value.  You would simply need to provide your insurance carrier with an appraisal that was done within the last three years.  You can get an appraisal from a certified gemologist, however it does cost a small fee.

So, I bet you’re wondering how much it would cost to insure jewelry?  That all depends on the value of the item itself.  The amount varies by carrier but on average scheduled jewelry items valued at less than or equal to $25,000 will be at the rate of $1.50 per $100.  Scheduled jewelry items that cost over $25,000 will be at the rate of $1.80 per $100. For example, a ring that cost $10,000 would add an additional $150 per year on to the renters’ or homeowners’ policy.  As we said, this amount is not exact and can vary by carrier.

So give us a call at MassDrive and get a quote for a homeowner’s  or renter’s policy.  Be sure to mention any fine jewelry that you may have and want to add on for coverage!  It’s the perfect way to your valentine’s heart and really is the extra step that shows how much you care!

Fight Off a Case of the Winter Blues With These Events in February!

As we have seen in the past few months, this winter has been anything but typical.  The warm temperatures and lack of snow have made it difficult to enjoy a traditional New England winter by venturing out into the snow for entertainment.  However, there are plenty of events taking place across Massachusetts this month that will keep you entertained and help you fight off a case of the winter blues!
  • Are you a fan of Mexican food? The Rattlesnake Bar and Grill in Boston is holding their second annual Burrito Bowl in honor of the Super Bowl.  This event will bring together some of the top chefs in Boston and have them compete to create the best Burrito.  Each chef will create a burrito named after the city of their favorite NFL team. Attendees and special guest “referee” judges will determine the winner.  The event costs about $17 per person and begins this Saturday, February 4th from 1:00-4:00 PM.  https://poesburritobowl.eventbrite.com/
  • Even though the Olympic Winter Games do not take place this year you can still get your sports fix by attending the 2012 Bay State Winter Games from February 10-12th in the Northern Berkshire region of Massachusetts.  Sporting events include alpine skiing, figure skating, and masters ice hockey competitions.  http://baystategames.org/html/bsgwww/wintergames/index.html
  • Looking for an event that will get the whole family up and out this winter? Check out the Winter Family Fun Safari taking place Saturday February 11th at 1:00 PM in Milton, MA.  It is a free event and families can meet up at Houghton Pond before exploring the woods and going on a hike to Rutherford explore what happens throughout nature during the winter.  This is a great family friendly event that is educational and a great source of exercise!  http://friendsofthebluehills.org/?p=4139
  • Salem, MA is celebrating the season of love this year by hosting the 10th annual “Salem’s So Sweet” chocolate and ice sculpture festival.  Admire the beautiful ice sculptures lining the streets of downtown Salem before stopping in a local establishment for some chocolate and wine tasting! http://salem-chamber.org/salems-so-sweet-44.html
  • Want to really surprise that special someone this Valentine’s day? The Top of the Hub is offering a four-course prix-fix menu on Tuesday, February 14th from 4:00-10:00 PM. The event costs $125 per person (which does not include drinks, tax, or gratuity) and although it is a bit pricey the view from the top of the Prudential Building and romance factor can’t be beat.  http://calendar.boston.com/boston-ma/events/show/239027644-top-of-the-hub-celebrates-valentines-day
  • Nick’s Comedy Stop, located within the Theater District of Boston, is hosting an Open Mic Night Thursday, February 16th featuring some of the most entertaining up and coming comedy acts in Boston.  Stop by for a few drinks and laughs to get your evening started on the right note.  Tickets are $12 per person and the event begins at 8:00 PM. https://openmicfeb.eventbrite.com/?ref=ebtn&nomo=1
  • You may have thought pageant season was over after the Miss USA pageant last month, however luckily you would be mistaken.  The Miss Boston 2012 pageant takes place Sunday, February 19th at 5:00 PM at the Omni Parker House in Boston.  Contestants will compete for the chance to move on to the Miss Massachusetts pageant in June and will compete in interview, talent, swim suit, and evening wear categories. http://www.missboston.org/Miss_Boston_2012_Pageant.html
  • Explore the nautical side of New England this winter in Provincetown and meet Delilah!  Delilah is an inflatable, life sized North Atlantic Right Whale that guests can tour while learning about these rare and beautiful animals.  There are only 475 of these whales left in the world and over 300 of those whales visited Cape Cod Bay in 2011.  This is a free event taking place on February 24th from 11:00 AM-12:15 PM.  http://www.capecodmagazine.com/Cape-Cod-Magazine/Calendar/index.php/name/MEET-DELILAH-THE-RIGHT-WHALE/event/8313/
  • Before the start of baseball season and after the Super Bowl mania has come to an end, all of you sports fans can still get a taste of the excitement at the Golden Gloves Boxing tournament in Lowell, MA.  The event is held annually and takes place on five different nights throughout the month of February as contestants try to move their way up through the competition.  This event has launched the careers of boxing legends such as Sugar Ray Leonard, Micky Ward, and Rocky Marciano.  For ticket information visit http://www.lowellgoldengloves.com/3/online_payment.htm
Make sure that you enjoy the rest of this winter by getting up and out! Whatever your interests are, there is an event for everyone taking place this February across Massachusetts!
